Doctrines
We believe that doctrines should
be explicitly based on the teachings of Scripture. We have attempted
to show where the Bible gives support for the doctrines. In fact,
because we believe that the words of Scripture themselves have power
and authority greater than any human words, we have not just given
Bible references; we have frequently quoted Bible passages at length
so that members can easily examine for themselves the scriptural
evidence and in that way be like the noble Bereans, who were
“examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so”
(Acts 17:11).
We do not believe that God
intended the study of doctrines to result in confusion and
frustration. A member who comes out of doctrinal uncertainty and a
thousand unanswered questions is hardly “able to give instruction in
sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it” (Titus
1:9). Therefore, we have tried to state the doctrinal positions of
Seventh Day Pentecostal Church of God clearly and to show where in
Scripture we find convincing evidence for our positions. We do not
expect that everyone reading this doctrine will agree with us at
every point; we do think that every member will understand the
positions we are arguing for and where Scripture can be found to
support those positions.
We believe it is only fair to
members of this church to say at the beginning what our own
convictions are regarding certain points that are disputed within
evangelical Christianity.
